“Terrible” Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022

Happy Terrible Tuesday – uggg. Never seems to disappoint; but as a friend once told me, “It’s only terrible because you call it that.” I suppose there is some truth to that, but it got it’s name for shitty things ALWAYS happening! Whether it be work or personal (but it did start at work…) always something.

As you know I have two fur babies. Oreo, is a 9yr old purebred Black Tri Austrialian Shepherd and always at 100 mph, no matter what. Dom and I made a 3 hr drive to Iowa to pick him up. He is a very verbal dog – likes to ‘holler’ at me quite a bit when he’s trying to get his point across; sometimes we can talk, but not too often. Dominic and Oreo used to be quite the conversationalists; every day after Dom would get home from school or work, there was some sort of discussion happening it seemed. As much as he drives me crazy – I sure do love him!

Then there’s Peaches. She is 10 yrs old, diabetic and sweet – literally, like a Peach 😉 She is a mix of Black Lab, Border Collie and Bichon; got her from a co-worker when I worked at Culligan. She’s usually up for anything and is chill about it. Due to her diabetes, she got cataracts a couple of years back and is considered blind. She gets shots of insulin two times a day, after breakfast and after supper. Peaches is one of the BEST dogs I’ve ever had – when it’s time for her insulin, you just say “Peach, time for medicine” and she comes and sits awaiting her poke; of course, after her poke, she gets a treat which is an ice cube 😉 She still loves to play ball, we taught her to ‘use her sniffer’ to find it…..lol. And by golly, it sure works – dogs are just so smart and amazing!!

Ok, on with my Terrible Tuesday……..

I ran out of insulin Sunday night. Yes, I know, I know…..not being responsible and I should’ve called either Friday or Saturday, but I failed to 🙁 Knowing that I couldn’t call the vet until Monday morning, there wasn’t much I could do. Monday rolled around and I called my vet in Kasson, asking to overnight (don’t ask how much THAT cost…..) some insulin; Monday equalled no insulin. Not sure how much you know about diabetes, but breath becomes sweet smelling and they drink A LOT of water, plus, they just don’t feel good.

Tuesday morning she didn’t eat anything and I could smell the sweetness on her breath and she laid around more than usual. Finally, about 10:00am I see UPS pull into my airbnb driveway – the big brown truck to the rescue!! I called the vet and thanked them, while trying not to cry, and asked how to proceed with dosing. I had to get her to eat something – they said even if I had to syringe feed her, she had to eat. SO, being the good fur baby momma that I am, I sat on the floor with her and spoon fed her…..and she ate. Happy Momma 🙂 A couple hours later, she was able to have a half dose and tonight she will have a regular supper and meds. Today was kinda a scary day for me, regarding Peaches. Thanks Tuesday. Whatever.

I love animals, mostly dogs. Always have, always will. They’re just so sweet and awesome and lovey and furry and sweet, oh, guess I said sweet already…lol…but you get my point. My fur babies have been there for me when I needed them to be and I’ll always be there for them too. People often underestimate dogs and what they do for us; how they love us, how they care for us, what they can do for us; I could go on and on. I mean look at service dogs, military and non-military – look at the lives they save; shit they’re better than most people I know!! I’m not sure that I’ll have any other dogs after Oreo & Peaches, just cause – well, just cause, I guess. I’d like to end my dog ownership with these two loves 🙂

“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive.”
